Communication Sciences and Disorders Minor

All students who wish to complete a Communication Sciences and Disorder (CSD) minor must complete CSDI 204 and an additional 15 credit hours of CSD coursework with a minimum grade of C. Students interested in a minor must meet with an academic advisor in CSD to plan a course of study, which will focus on basic human communication processes and/or communication development and disorders. Please be advised that courses required to complete the minor in CSD are offered on a rotating basis, once per academic year. Specific courses require successful completion of prerequisite classes.

Requirements (18 credit hours)

In addition to CSDI 204, fifteen credits of the following courses are required:

  • Fall Semester (1)
    • CSDI 204: Introduction to Communication Disorders (required for minor)
    • CSDI 206: Anatomy and Physiology of Speech and Hearing
  • Spring Semester (1)
    • CSDI 205: Phonetics
    • CSDI 207: Speech Science (prerequisites: CSDI 206 & CSDI 205 or concurrent enrollment in 205) 
    • CSDIL 207: Speech Science Lab 
  • Fall Semester (2)
    • CSDI 305: Development of Language in the Young Child (prerequisite PSYCH 199/207)
    • CSDI 307: Intro to Audiology (prerequisite CSDI 206) 

Optional if considering Graduate programs in CSD: 

  • Spring Semester (2)
    • CSDI 308: Aural Rehab (prerequisite CSDI 307) 
    • CSDI 202: Professional Writing in Communication Sciences and Disorders (prerequisite CSDI 204)
