Biography

Jinyoung Koh, Ph.D., earned her doctorate in educational psychology and educational technology at Michigan State University (MSU) and served as a postdoctoral research associate in the office of the vice provost for undergraduate affairs and academic programs and the office of the vice chancellor for student affairs at University of Illinois Chicago (UIC).

She is passionate about the research and practice on cumulative risk factors and protective factors of diverse college students related to their academic success, career readiness and well-being. In her research project at UIC, she utilized institutional data to advocate the advancement of social and emotional learning (SEL) of diverse young adults in urban higher education. In addition to providing culturally relevant resources on noncognitive strengths through her research, she has contributed to data-driven actionable plans for policymakers and stakeholders through effective collaborative relationships with UIC officers who dealt with commuters and transfers, the City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), and other specific academic advisors from colleges. She updated noncognitive measures and intervention thresholds targeting incoming first-year and transfer students connecting with retention and graduation rates.

Koh is very excited to join the Saint Xavier University community. She looks forward to applying her expertise in social and emotional development of college students and their well-being to the Psychology Department and SXU. Through future research, she plans to execute a comprehensive research road map for college and career readiness among diverse young adults, particularly those who are historically under-resourced.
