Biography

Jeffrey Hornof is a lecturer in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Division. He holds a bachelor’s degree in human communication sciences from Northwestern University and a master’s degree in speech-language pathology from Western Michigan University.

Prior to joining the faculty at Saint Xavier University, he practiced as a medical speech-language pathologist in the acute care, inpatient rehabilitative, and skilled nursing settings. The majority of his clinical practice occurred at a level one trauma hospital in Chicago, where he provided adult speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing services across a variety of medical diagnoses, with a focus in intensive and trauma-based care.

At SXU, he teaches undergraduate and graduate medical speech-language pathology courses, supervises students in the Ludden Speech and Language Clinic, and assists with implementation of simulation-based education to support students’ learning. Additionally, he is a current doctoral student in the Ph.D. in Health Sciences program at Northern Illinois University. He has primary research interests in improving caregiver/family knowledge of the relationship between dysphagia and dementia, investigating decision-making and dysphagia management for this population, and improving SLP student training of this area through experiential learning and simulation.
