Biography

Lisa Osier is the program director for the Communication Sciences and Disorders Division, where she oversees undergraduate and graduate programs as well as clinical education within the Ludden Speech and Language Clinic. She brings a distinctive balance of clinical expertise, instructional design, and forward-thinking leadership to her role.

Before transitioning to academia, Osier worked extensively as a bedside clinician in acute care hospital settings, specializing in the assessment and treatment of medically complex patients. As the lead speech-language pathologist in the intensive care unit, she provided expertise in swallowing and communication management for critically ill patients, collaborating with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to deliver coordinated care. Her clinical practice also spanned acute medical floors, where she addressed a broad range of neurogenic communication disorders, dysphagia, and cognitive-linguistic needs.

Her current work emphasizes innovation in clinical supervision, simulation-based learning, and the integration of artificial intelligence in speech-language pathology education. Through her doctoral studies in education, she is focused on advancing practices that equip clinical supervisors with the knowledge and tools to be effective teachers, strengthening student learning, and bridging the gap between clinical expertise and pedagogy. She also contributes to professional initiatives at the state, national, and international levels.
