ChrisTina Edwards works in the University's TRIO office as director of the Student Success Program (SSP). Serving in underserved communities as an educator and academic advisor, Edwards is a huge advocate for students of all cultural backgrounds through the provision of opportunities to learn and advance through mentorship, service and education.
Edwards is extremely passionate about supporting and empowering students of color (who come from economically-disadvantaged backgrounds) in ways that go far beyond her professional duties. Edwards's favorite quote is one by Tupac Shakur: "I am not saying that I am going to rule the world or change the world, but I guarantee that I will spark the brain that will change the world." Edwards believes it is her duty to assist with closing the achievement gap for students who come from economically-disadvantaged backgrounds similar to her own.
Edwards received her Bachelor of Science in elementary/middle level education from Illinois State University and her Master of Education (M.Ed.) in educational leadership with a concentration in higher education from DePaul University. Edwards served as an educator for Chicago Public Schools (CPS) for six years prior to joining the SXU family. Edwards also has experience with serving and supporting first-generation college students at DePaul University.
Edwards is a proud first-generation/TRIO alumna and a proud member of the Golden Apple Teacher Scholar's Program. Outside of her professional duties, Edwards enjoys traveling, dining at aesthetically-pleasing restaurants, spending time with family and friends, attending church, and being outdoors.
