Biography

Darren Jones joined the Saint Xavier University staff in November 2025 as a student support specialist with TRIO. Jones graduated from Illinois State University in 2022 with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in philosophy. During his time as a student, Jones participated in a campus a cappella group, serving as secretary from 2020 to 2021 and president from 2021 to 2022.

Jones is a huge fan of helping those he serves achieve their goals and plan for their individual futures. He wants to pursue a master's degree in clinical/counseling psychology to become a licensed therapist and provide care to young adults in need. He is very passionate about finding out what drives those he works with and helping them pursue those passions through accessible resources and supports.

Before moving to Oak Lawn in August 2025, Jones worked in Bloomington-Normal. He worked for the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, taking calls from individuals in mental health crisis and gaining valuable experience in resource location and active listening. After working in the call center for a year, he switched gears to work with young adults facing housing instability (ages 18-24), providing case management support by helping them find housing, employment, educational opportunities, and other resources. Jones is excited to support students at Saint Xavier University by drawing on his past experiences and the new knowledge he gains along the way.

Outside of work, Jones loves spending time with his loved ones, attending concerts, and exploring different activity parks (Six Flags, Universal Studios, Disney, and many more). Jones crochets in his free time as much as he can, making different clothing pieces and other fun projects. Some of his favorite games include puzzle games, Stardew Valley, Skyrim, and the Mario franchise.
