Scholarship Details

The Mercy Fund for Ministry Grant program invites recipients to develop a project centered on Laudato Si, the papal encyclical that calls for compassionate care of the earth. Recipients will develop a local project that advocates for sustainable practices on campus and beyond. This project will be developed with the Critical Concerns of Earth as a guidepost.

Program Objectives

Participants will be exposed to the Critical Concerns in a meaningful way through the direct application of a tangible project. Students will have the freedom to develop their project, within the parameters of sustainability and climate change and with a focus on advocacy. Participants will present on their findings to the SXU community, broadening the scope of engagement with this Critical Concern.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be:

  • Undergraduate, degree-seeking students, who demonstrate significant financial need;
  • Enrolled full time;
  • Entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year in the 2023-2024 academic year;
  • In good disciplinary standing with the University;
  • In good academic standing with the University;
  • Willing to dedicate meaningful time to address and implement a project related to Laudato Si and the Critical Concern of Earth.

**Scholarship preference will be given to first generation, and/or undocumented or DACA students and/or students of Latinx/Hispanic descent.

Selection Process

Recipients will be selected from the pool of applicants by a review panel. All applicants will be notified of a decision by November 10, 2023.

  • If selected, information presented in this application may be shared with the scholarship donor and used to develop publicity materials for the program.
  • Saint Xavier University reserves the right to make changes in eligibility criteria or terms of awards for scholarships, assistantships, or any other financial aid programs.
