Homecoming Liturgy and Spirit of Saint Xavier Awards

11 a.m., McDonough Chapel of the Mother of Mercy

What better way to begin Homecoming week than by celebrating our faith! The SXU community is welcome to join us for the Liturgy of the Word at which  the Spirit of Saint Xavier Awards will be presented to those alumni who in word and deed exemplify Saint Xavier University’s core values of respect, excellence, compassion, service, hospitality, integrity, diversity and learning for life.    

A reception honoring the alumni awards recipients will immediately follow in the Fourth Floor Board Room.

Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow (STAT) Brown Bag Project

All are welcome - alumni, students, staff and faculty -  to help us make lunches for local shelters that serve our neighbors in need. Donations of peanut butter, jelly, snacks and juice pouches (or monetary donations to offset the cost of this project) are always appreciated. Pray with the entire SXU community that the special gifts of the Holy Spirit -- awe, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, understanding and wisdom -- will mark the new academic year.

3:30 p.m., Leadership Commissioning, Academy Bell

Call forth and commission representative SXU leaders -- students, alumni, staff, faculty, administrators, trustees and Sisters of Mercy -- blessing them for a leadership of service in the year ahead.

4 p.m., Meet some Mercy Sisters, Student Lounge

Welcome and converse with Sister of Mercy leaders whose years of service have been guided by the Holy Spirit and inspired by Mercy founder Catherine McAuley's love of God, compassion for others and commitment to education.

Back by popular demand, local comedians, Pat McGann (Late Night with David Letterman) will be joined by Pat Tomasulo (WGN News anchor) and Dwayne Kennedy (Comedy Central) for an evening of laughs during Homecoming 2015!

Cougar 5K Run/Walk

9 a.m., Smith Morris Quad

All are welcome to take part in the 15th Annual Cougar 5K Run/Walk. Participants receive a t-shirt, refreshments and a ticket to the football game upon request. The course starts and finishes on the campus and runs through Evergreen Park. For additional information or to register please visit our Cougar 5K web page.

“Cougar’s Corner” - the official SXU Homecoming Tailgate!

Alumni and friends are invited to join us under the big top as we celebrate Homecoming 2015. Guests will have an opportunity to watch the game from the tent.

This is a milestone reunion year for all those who graduated in years ending in an “0” or a “5” so don’t miss this opportunity to catch up with old friends! 

Register online. $25 (21+) includes admission to the tent, food, beverages - water, soda, wine and beer (featuring SXBrew -  a handcrafted beer created especially for SXU by Horse Thief Hollow Restaurant and Brewery). **Parents are welcome!

Children (12 and under) accompanied by a paid adult are free.

Back by popular demand  - Cougar Cubs - an entertainment area for kids which will include a jumping jack; craft projects; and more!
