Homecoming 2014

SXU alumni and friends enjoyed a record breaking host of events during the University’s Homecoming 2014 celebration which featured new traditions and the introduction of 1846 Red Lager, brewed specially for SXU by Horse Thief Hollow Restaurant and Brewery (Chicago, IL) and Comics for Cougars, an event featuring the comedic talents of local artists, Pat McGann (recently appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman), Ana Belaval (WGN Morning News) and Mike Toomey (WGN Morning News). More than 300 guests attended the comedy night event where a portion of the admission price was donated in support of student scholarships.

The week consisted of many events which embodied Saint Xavier's spirit including:

Homecoming Liturgy and Spirit of Saint Xavier Awards

Honoring alumni Margaret “Peg” Bogacz ’64 (Spirit of Saint Xavier Award), Kathleen Gordon-Davis ’85, ’06 (Sister Dorothy Marie Peschon '19 Award) and Doretha E. Walker-Brown '10 (Rita A. Ford '98, Faith in the Future Award).

Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow (STAT) Brown Bag Project

Alumni and students gathered on September 22 and made 600 lunches for our neighbors in need.

The Academic Distinguished Alumni and The O'Brien Student Leadership Awards

Honoring alumni and students whose words and actions emulate the operating ethos of Saint Xavier University. The 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award recipients are: Jack D. Love, C.P.A. '81 (Graham School of Management); Dr. Christopher J. Green '81 (College of Arts and Sciences); Phyllis Cavallone-Jurek '92, '95 (School of Education); Diane O'Brien '62 (School of Nursing).

The week ended with a bang on Saturday, September 27 as students, alumni and friends of SXU participated in the 14th Annual Cougar 5K Walk/Run. Afterward, more than 250 guests gathered in the Homecoming Tailgate/VIP Tent, enjoying the game in the company of family and old friends. For the second year, Cougar Cubs – an area for kids that kept the little ones entertained as they decorated candy bags, bounced in the DINO JUMP and received spray tattoos.
