Institutional Review Board

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Saint Xavier University is established in compliance with Title 45, Part 46 of the Code of Federal Regulations (Rev. June 18, 1991). The role of the IRB is to review all proposals for research involving human subjects prior to the commencement of such research and to monitor the progress of projects which have received IRB approval. The purpose of IRB review is not to place obstacles in the path of legitimate research, but rather to ensure that the rights of human research subjects are fully protected.

Attention to All IRB Submitters

As of June 12, 2019, IRB submissions will no longer be made through the IRB Submission Canvas course.

All researchers will submit an email to the SXU Institutional Review Board at irbFREESXU. The email should include the subject line "[LAST NAME]_New IRB Submission_[MM.DD.YY]" and body should make the IRB aware of the research proposal, including project title. All required documents must be completed and attached to document as PDFs. Failure to do so will result in delayed response and review. Upon receipt of all appropriate required material, the IRB will notify the researcher of the next steps of the review process.

NOTE: Students (undergraduate or graduate) completing research can complete the application process; however, students must cc their faculty advisor on the original email to the IRB as well as all additional correspondences. All communication between the IRB and student researchers concerning student research will be copied to the faculty advisor.
