Student Success Academy

The Student Success Academy, formerly known as Academic Advantage, is a one semester hour academic support course for a select group of incoming first-year students. The program assists first-year students in developing the necessary skills and academic confidence to succeed in advanced college learning. The course will cover a variety of topics, such as critical reading, time management and organizational skills, research skills, learning styles, and test-taking skills.

Most importantly, students will be provided with small-group learning communities that offer them one-on-one academic attention, and a social, support network of peers as they enter SXU.

The course, ACSU 130, is an in-person class which meets one day a week for 10 weeks.

The Student Success Academy is offered to first-year students through CASA (The Comprehensive, Aligned Supports for Attainment) initiative (#PO31S190311) at no cost. For registration information and program details, please contact Nancy Ortiz-Romero, director of Student Support at 773-298-3151 or

Student Success Academy orientation will be on August 4, 2022. Classes begin August 22, 2022. Students will be contacted by Student Support with more information prior to the beginning of the semester.
