Student Success Academy
The Student Success Academy, formerly known as Academic Advantage, is a one semester
hour academic support course for a select group of incoming first-year students. The
program assists first-year students in developing the necessary skills and academic
confidence to succeed in advanced college learning. The course will cover a variety
of topics, such as, critical reading, financial literacy, research skills, learning
styles, test-taking skills, and major/career exploration. The course, ACSU 130, will
meet one day a week when in-person classes are held; other class meetings will be
held online. Classes begin August 24, 2020. Students will be contacted by their academic
coach for class meeting information prior to the beginning of the semester.
Most importantly, students will be provided with small-group learning communities
that offer them one-on-one academic attention, and a social, support network of peers
as they enter SXU.
The Student Success Academy is offered to first-year students through CASA (The Comprehensive, Aligned Supports for Attainment) initiative (#PO31S190311) at no cost. For registration information and program details, please contact Nancy Ortiz-Romero, director of Student Support at 773-298-3151 or ortizromero@sxu.edu.
