About the Program
The College of Liberal Arts and Education offers a 10-course, 30-hour degree completion program in Strategic Communication. The Bachelor of Arts in Strategic Communication, formally known as Strategic Communication, is an online adult degree completion program designed to prepare student for careers in communication-related and professional fields. Potential career areas include advertising, corporate relations, event planning, health communication, higher education, human resources, journalism, media production, media programming and management, the internet and personal media, media research, organizational communication, public relations, speech writing, and training and consulting, among other possibilities.
The department develops effective communicators who not only are skilled in using communication technologies but also understand that socially responsible communication is an interaction among people that requires both skill and sensitivity. The study of communication teaches students how to express their ideas and values in spoken, written and visual messages. Students also learn how to evaluate the effectiveness of messages produced by others.
Students will gain the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Compelling communication skills: You will create effective audience-centered messages.
- Critical analysis: You will interpret and critically respond to mediated and non-mediated messages.
- Oral communication skills: You will present messages in multiple communication modalities and contexts.
- Research skills: You will locate, evaluate and utilize credible information from various sources to develop your own perspective on current issues and trends.
- Problem-Solving: You will become an experienced learner who is able to identify new problems and solve them.
- Professionalism: You will be prepared to interact confidently with others in a global workplace.
