In the ever-growing health and wellness industry, there is demand for qualified professionals to lead and administer programs to ensure quality of life.

The Sports Management program is ideal for individuals seeking to blend both science and business within the health and wellness field. Students will gain financial management, sales, and fitness marketing skills and be well-prepared to pursue graduate education or professional opportunities and elevate the sports experience through dynamic management.  

 

Why Earn Your B.A. in Sports Management?

Sports Management students will obtain the skills necessary to apply marketing principles, understand and apply knowledge in sports and fitness in real-world settings, and apply financial and economic principles to organizations within athletics. Students will also have a chance to work at SXU’s Center for Health and Wellness within the business side as a student worker to gain real-world experience and will have access to SXU’s technologically advanced Human Performance Lab for hands-on learning about the practice of fitness. Many students have gone on to obtain an MBA and secure jobs in their chosen field.

About the Program

The Sports Management program blends science and business within health and wellness to teach students how to manage, market and run a fitness-related business and the science behind the body’s workings. With courses from the AACSB-accredited Graham School of Management and an NSCA-approved exercise science curriculum, students will gain practical management experience, learn about sports safety and regulations, use data to make informed decisions about sports operations, and study the ethical considerations of sports management.

Students majoring in Sports Management will have access to the Human Performance Lab located in Saint Xavier's Center for Health and Wellness. This lab is dedicated to bringing our students the most up-to-date exercise and sport science technology, including:

  • Full Weight Room
  • GPS Tracking Technology
  • Portable Force Plates
  • Velocity-Based Technology
  • In-Body Body Composition System
  • Bluetooth VO2 Analysis System
  • FMS
  • VALD Performance Technologies (including Dynamometer, Jump Mat, and Laser Timing Gate System)
  • Dashr Laser System

  • Students will be taught by expert business faculty in the Graham School of Management.
  • Students will take classes in exercise science and learn the theory of fitness.
  • Students will utilize the Human Performance Lab as a resource to understand the practice of fitness.
  • Students will have a chance to work at the Center for Health and Wellness within the business side as a student worker for real-life experience.
  • Students will take the senior seminar course that encompasses their four years of work as an undergraduate.

In this program, students will obtain skills required to:
  • Apply marketing principles.
  • Understand and apply knowledge in sports and fitness in real-world settings.
  • Apply financial and economic principles to organizations within athletics.

  • Many courses are taught in the Graham School of Management, which is AACSB-accredited (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), a designation held by only 5% of collegiate schools of business worldwide.
