International Service Trip to Belize

The International Mercy Service Trip to Belize, Central America, offers students the opportunity to experience a new culture while building a home for a needy family. Students visit Altun Ha, an ancient Mayan cultural site, and visit with the Sisters of Mercy in Belize. They spend time at a daycare center for children affected by HIV-AIDS and enjoy an outing to one of the Caribbean caves.

Due to the nature of this service trip, students work daily with the recipient family to construct and paint a simple house to provide them with adequate shelter. A special feature is the ability to also install indoor plumbing for the family -- something all of us take for granted each day. Students who have been to Belize say it is "a life changing experience" that prompts new thoughts about life in the U.S. and the rest of the world.
