Student Success and Inclusion at Saint Xavier University supports multicultural students and alumni with their academic, career and support needs. General Resources

You will find a number of general resources to help you prepare for career and educational opportunities as a multicultural student.

United We Dream is an organization dedicated to empowering people to fight for justice and dignity for immigrants and all people through immigrant youth-led campaigns at the local, state and federal level.

The College Guide for DACA and Undocumented Students is a comprehensive guide for undocumented students to navigate the various options available to achieve their educational goals.

The DACA Resource Center by CitizenPath aims to educate undocumented individuals on how navigate paths to legal status, planning for the future and legal information regarding DACA.

CitizenPath provides information on undocumented individuals' employment rights under DACA including information about I-9 requirements, E-Verify and workplace discrimination.

Employment Discrimination by FindLaw is an overview of multicultural employment discrimination resources including race and national origin and the laws that protect individuals from being treated unfairly.

Resources specifically set up to meet the needs or address the interests of various groups such as women, persons of varied nationalities and more.

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities is an organization comprised of more than 470 colleges and universities committed to Hispanic higher education success in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Latin America and Spain.

The EduMed Scholarships and Resources for Hispanic and Latinx Students article outlines available scholarships and financial, education, and advocacy resources for Hispanic and Latinx students.

Job Search

Below you will find several job search websites that multicultural students might find useful in conducting a job search.

Traditional job search engines such as Indeed allow keyword searches using DACA to explore positions suitable for undocumented individuals.

LatPro Job Search is a job search website dedicated to the needs of Hispanic and bilingual professionals.

IMDiversity is a job search database with employers committed to diversity and offering opportunities to underrepresented populations.

Conduct an equal opportunity job search by viewing positions available or post an anonymous resume and let employers submit opportunities to you.

INROADS is dedicated to helping businesses gain greater access to diverse talent through continuous leadership development of outstanding ethnically diverse students and placement of those students in internships at many of North America's top corporations, firms, and organizations.

Multicultural affairs positions and positions relating to affirmative action in higher education can be found across the United States by using HigherEd Jobs.

Fair360 is a website offering career and employment resources and a job board with employers dedicated to hiring diverse candidates.

Diversity Working is the largest diversity job board online with community channels spanning various multicultural populations.

The Minority Professional Network is specialized in diversity and multicultural-focused recruiting, supplier diversity, digital marketing, training, and consulting solutions.

Historically Black College or University Career Center is a website that provides visitors with job listings and resources specifically for African-American students and graduates.

Diversity Employers is a job search database for applicants to find employers committed to diversity.

Resources for Undocumented Students

Illinois Association for College Admission Counseling provides assistance for individuals who work with undocumented students. 

Consideration of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals provides information on requesting Consideration of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights offers to connect immigrant communities throughout Illinois to a full range of support in collaboration with member organizations.

Illinois Latino Council for Higher Education works on a mission to create an awareness of issues impacting Latinos in higher education and to provide a statewide forum for Latino educators, community representatives, and other supporters for the social and professional advancements of Latinos.  

Informed Immigrant provides all undocumented immigrants with the knowledge and resources they need to feel prepared for unpredictable environments.

National Immigrant Law Center works to advance and defend the rights and opportunities of low-income immigrants and their loved ones.

National Immigrant Justice Center offers free clinics to help with the DACA renewal process.

Saint Xavier University Resources

  • Welcomes all prospective students, regardless of immigration status.
  • All information shared with the Office of Admission is kept confidential and is used only to support the admission process. 
  • Immigration or citizenship status is not considered when making admission decisions. 
  • Admission counselors provide one-on-one guidance throughout the application process. 
  • Assistance is available with applications, transcripts, campus visits, and next steps after admission. 
  • Students can be connected with campus resources, including financial aid, student advising, and other support services. 
  • Questions are always welcome—students and families are encouraged to reach out for personalized assistance.

  • Personalized career guidance: The center provides one-on-one support to help undocumented students navigate resumes, cover letters, job and internship searches, interviews, and career planning with confidence. 
  • Work authorization and career pathway guidance: We help students understand work authorization, employment options, and alternative pathways such as fellowships, entrepreneurship, freelancing, and independent contracting.
  • Confidential and inclusive support: Students receive individualized, judgment-free guidance on topics like immigration status disclosure, workplace rights, and responding to sensitive application or interview questions. 
  • Resources to make informed decisions: We connect students with trusted information on employment rights, ITINs, licensing considerations, and organizations that support undocumented professionals.
  • Mission-driven commitment to student success: Rooted in Saint Xavier University's Mercy mission, we foster a welcoming environment where undocumented students are empowered to pursue meaningful academic and career goals. 

  • Student leadership opportunities are available through student organization involvement, leadership development programs, and campus committees, without regard to immigration status. 
  • Campus-wide events and social, cultural, educational programs are held throughout the academic year, ensuring that all students can participate in meaningful social, educational, and cultural experiences. 
  • Opportunities to connect, engage, learn, and grow so that every student has access to meaningful engagement that encourages connection, leadership, and personal growth.  Every effort is made to remove participation barriers so that all feel welcomed, valued, and empowered to fully engage in campus life, which supports academic success. 

  • Confidential mental health services, including individual therapy sessions, one-time emotional support sessions, and case management are offered in both English and Spanish, and at no cost to students. 
  • Engaging mental wellness and community-building events that promote mental health and wellness, build community, and support student success and well-being. 

  • Outreach and support, especially during crisis or challengefor students who experience temporary or longer-term barriers to access or participation, and coordinates Care Team efforts to identify a student’s path back to academic success.
  • Communication support during absences to help inform instructors about a student’s unplanned absence from class. 
  • Offers resource guidance and student advocacy to educate students about policies, procedures, rights, and responsibilities, on campus and beyond, and their impact on a student’s experience of access, enrollment, and academic success.

Professional Organizations, Conferences and Networking

Connect with other multicultural students and professionals through organizations, conferences and networking events.

The National Association of Asian American Professionals is the largest and fastest growing Asian-American professional organization in North America. The association provides its members with the tools and resources to further career advancements and empower Asian-American professionals to become great leaders and reliable employees.

The mission of the Asian American Government Executives Network is to promote, expand and support Asian American and Pacific Islander leadership in Government.

The U.S. Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce is the oldest and largest national, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization representing all Asian American and Asian American-related groups in business, sciences, arts, sports, education and public and community services.

The American Association of Blacks in Energy was founded in 1977 and has 36 chapters. Specialties include energy policy, technology and the environment.

The National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers organized in 1972 to build a community of minority scientists and engineers with now 39 professional and university chapters.

The National Society of Black Engineers started in 1975; it now has more than 35,700 members from more than 390 college, precollege and technical professional chapters nationwide and overseas. The group's mission is to increase the number of African-American engineers, as well as help them succeed professionally and to give back to their communities

The National Society of Black Physicists is the largest organization of African American physicists; 16 sections ranging from astronomy, astrophysics and nuclear physics to technology transfer, business development and entrepreneurship. Its mission is to promote the professional well-being of African-American physicists within the international scientific community.

The National Black Chamber of Commerce represents 95,000 African-American-owned businesses and provides advocacy that reaches one million African-American-owned businesses.

The mission of 100 Black Men of America is to improve the quality of life and enhance educational and economic opportunities for all African-Americans.

The mission of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women is to develop leaders who will help to rebuild their communities and redirect the energies of younger African-Americans in those communities.

The U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce began in 1979. It has more than 200 local member chambers in the US, Puerto Rico and Mexico. Composed primarily of entrepreneurs and those working for small businesses. Advocates, promotes and facilitates the success of Hispanic/Latino businesses.
