CIDAT

Instructional Support provides one-on-one consultation to faculty from different teaching disciplines and also has developed workshops specifically tailored to different SXU departments' needs.

Center for Learning and Student Support

Whether your students are excited by a new subject and want to know more, need assistance with an assignment or paper or are having trouble mastering the course content of a subject, the Center for Learning and Student Support is available to provide assistance. This service is provided free of charge to currently enrolled students of SXU. Visit their website to see how to schedule a writing tutor session.

Available through CANVAS, the Center for Learning and Student Support is pleased to provide your students with access to online tutoring from Brainfuse. Tutoring is available in writing, reading, math, science, business, Spanish and English. Have students visit their website to find more information about it.

SXU Portal

Within the SXU Portal, you will find myApplications on the right corner. From there, you can access Exchange (SXU faculty and staff email system), make room reservations and access SXU Hub, where you can learn more about services offered at SXU and request services from the service catalog.

Adobe Products

  • Acrobat Pro
    • Adobe Acrobat Pro allows changes to be made within PDF documents, such as altering images or text.
  • After Effects
    • Adobe After Effects, along with Photoshop and Premiere, adds advanced visual effects and graphics to your video or project.
  • Audition
  • Adobe Audition allows the user to mix, edit, and create audio content. Audio tracks created can be exported into various audio formats such as MP3 or WAV.
  • Dreamweaver
    • Adobe Dreamweaver is a sophisticated web design tool that allows web developers to work directly from multiple web languages such as HTML or JavaScript.
  • Flash Professional
    • Adobe Flash Professional creates interactive and animated content which includes games, movies, and web applications.
  • Illustrator
    • Adobe Illustrator allows users to draw freehand or create flyers and ads with easy resizing tools. Combined with a drawing tablet, Illustrator allows for animation and note taking.
  • InDesign
    • Adobe InDesign is a book and magazine designer and editor. It allows page by page creation and customizability, with options to export in a variety of formats relating to PDF, eBook and more.
  • Photoshop
    • Adobe Photoshop is a graphic editor, which allows users to edit images.
  • Premiere Pro
    • Adobe Premiere Pro is a program that goes alongside video creation, videos to be cut, organized, framed and more.

Audio Tools

  • GarageBand
    • GarageBand is a software based musical band to accommodate your music needs. Add instrumentals to your tracks or place your own recordings. The product only functions on Mac devices.
  • Adobe Audition
    • Adobe Audition allows the user to mix, edit, and create audio content. Audio tracks created can be exported into various audio formats such as MP3 or WAV.

Image Capturing Tools

  • Snagit
    • Snagit is a screenshot program for image, video and audio captures. All captures made can be edited.
  • Mac Image Capture: Command+Shift+4
    • To capture an image on a Mac computer hold the keyboard keys Command, Shift and 4. Then use the mouse to create a border of the image you would like captured.

Lecture Capture Tools

  • Pre-lecture recording
    • QuickTime
      • QuickTime is an advanced media player with tools to edit your videos by adding subtitles translations, altering the rate of speed, and more. Many file formats are compatible on QuickTime.
    • VidGrid
      • Use VidGrid to record, create, and edit online lectures. Add in-video questions to engage students. Audio and live screen actions can also be captured.
    • PowerPoint
      • Create an organized presentation using PowerPoint. Select a theme and customize slides to by adding images or links.
    • CIDAT Studio
      • Use the CIDAT Studio to create professional recordings with the Lightboard or Greenscreen.
  • In-class lecture recording, Sometimes instructors will offer an online and a face-to-face class at the same time, instead of pre-record your lectures, you can record your face-to-face class and upload it to Canvas. Please email cidatFREESXU and we can discuss possible solutions to record your face-to-face classes.
    • Zoom
      • Use Zoom to create an online video conference meeting where users can share desktops in live action.
    • VidGrid

Testing Tools

  • Canvas Quiz
    • Use Canvas quiz to create online quizzes. Choose from multiple choice, essays, matching, fill in the blank and more. The assignment will be directly synchronized to the gradebook once created.
  • Respondus LockDown Browser
    • Respondus LockDown Browser disables students from opening any browsers or pages while taking an online quiz or test. The screen is frozen until the test or quiz is submitted through Canvas.
  • VidGrid
    • VidGrid adaptive quizzing feature is available to ask questions to students within the video presented. Polls and surveys are also available to drive more engagement for students.

Video Conferencing Tools

  • Zoom
    • Use Zoom to create an online video conference meeting where users can share desktops in live action by signing in with your SXU NetID and Password. Add closed captions to your Zoom meeting to meet accessibility standards.
  • Canvas Conference (Big Blue Button)
    • Use Canvas Conference to create online conference meetings. Users can choose between various conferencing display options. Files can be uploaded for sharing during the conference.

Video Editing Tools

  • iMovie
    • iMovie is a video editing software allowing users to add titles, effects, music, themes, and make more changes to videos. The software is exclusive to Mac devices.
  • Adobe Premiere Pro
    • Premiere is a program that goes alongside video creation, videos to be cut, organized, framed and more.
  • Adobe After Effects
  • After Effects, along with Photoshop and Premiere, adds advanced visual effects and graphics to your video or project.

Video Sharing Tools

  • YouTube
    • With YouTube, users can upload videos to be published publicly or privately. By publishing a video privately, only those who are given the link to the video page can view the video.
  • VidGrid
    • Share recorded or uploaded videos with other users through Canvas or with a share link. Create a guest link for students to record and share their presentations.
