Via - First-Year Orientation
We are so excited to welcome you to Saint Xavier University! Your first step as an incoming student is to participate in Via, our first-year orientation. New first-year students entering SXU in the fall must participate in Via orientation, which is designed to make your transition to college life as smooth as possible.
What is via?Via is an online orientation program to provide you with essential resources and information to prepare you to make the transition to college. Via will provide you information about your first-semester classes, and you will be introduced to our Catholic, Mercy heritage and to campus resources and support services -- people and areas that will enrich your Saint Xavier University experience. Bottom-line: You will have fun, learn about campus and get acquainted with your new community!
Why is orientation called Via?Via is a tribute to the University motto Via, Veritas, Vita. The motto is Latin for "Way, Truth, Life" from the scripture verse, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life" (John 14:6). Via (the Way) will help incoming students find their way as new members of the SXU community.
Placement TestingTo ensure that you begin your college career in coursework appropriate to you ability level, all incoming first-year students must register for math the English placement testing. Dates and times are added weekly.
We ask that you complete your placement testing at least two weeks prior to the date that you will be attending orientation to receive your fall class schedule during Via. You are strongly encouraged to prepare for the placement testing by taking time to review.
