SPEAK OUT!® at the Ludden Speech and Language Clinic

SPEAK OUT!®

The Ludden Speech and Language Clinic is proud to offer SPEAK OUT!® services in person or via telehealth. The SPEAK OUT!® program is a research-based medical therapy program specifically designed for people with Parkinson's to regain and retain their voices, minimize swallowing problems, and maximize socialization within their communication communities.

SPEAK OUT!® is based on the principles of motor learning and the teachings of Daniel R. Boone, Ph.D., CCC-SLP. Through this well-researched and proven technique, clients learn to convert speech from an automatic function to an intentional act.

In addition to individual SPEAK OUT!® services, the Ludden Speech and Language Clinic offers SPEAK OUT!® Group sessions on Wednesday mornings. This group session is critical for therapy maintenance and to encourage social interaction with other SPEAK OUT® graduates.

The Communication Sciences and Disorders Division at SXU is the proud recipient of the Parkinson's Voice Project 2023 SPEAK OUT! Program Development Grant.

Why SXU?

The purpose of the 2023 SPEAK OUT!® Program Development Grant from the Parkinson Voice Project is to help more people with Parkinson's "Speak with INTENT." The Program Development Grant provides training in SPEAK OUT!®, making it possible for more speech-language pathologists to provide this specific evidence-based therapy to help people with Parkinson's communicate. We are a university clinic and have been able to train 42 graduate clinicians and two additional faculty members in SPEAK OUT!®. We are well-equipped to reach patients via telehealth, in person, and through hybrid delivery of services. Our services are provided free of charge. With such criteria, the Ludden Clinic is an excellent grant recipient and will proudly increase access to therapy.
